Interested in purchasing a remote for my Canon D-30, I note the manual supplied with the camera lists three compatables.... the TC-80N3, the RS-80N3, and the wireless LC-4. Does anyone use these models, and have a critique of them, or is there anything else someone has used that works well on the D-30? Also, does the wireless work in a 360 degree arc around the camera or does one have to stand behind or in front of the camera to use it, in other words is it like a television remote where one actually points the wireless at the camera and there are "dead spots." Thanks.

I have TC-80N3 and it works fine. I use it mainly for time lapse photos and it works great. I have used it for long exposure work at night too. You can set the number of pictures to take, the time interval between each picture, and the length of each exposure. You could use a laptop for all these features that the remote provides, but I don't like bringing a laptop everywhere I go. Plus, I don't mind so much leaving the camera and remote outside to catch the sun rise on a cold morning as I would the laptop. $0.02

I have a TC-80N3. Very useful stuff. You can use it as a cable release or a pre programmed sequence shooter for time lapse photography or a long duration shutter control (though may not be that useful due to D30 noise level :D ). And of course you can use it as a extra long duration self timer. It also has a blue electro-Luminescence backit to lightup display at night. The power consumption should be very low as there is no power on-off switch. It runs from a Lithium button cell.
I use it mainly as a cable release for my D30 on a tripod. You may use RS-80N3, which is way cheaper than TC-80N3.
The timer body is made of plastic with a big shutter button on it. It acts just like D30 shutter release, half depressed autofocus engages and full depress releases the shutter. But the button feel is quite different from that of D30. You can not feel the tactile feedback when you fully depress the shutter.
Programming the device is no brainer. A click dial switch is provided at the side (like my Canon GL1 exposure control or menu selection switch). You press the wheel to select the parameter to change and roll it to set the time.
I have no idea about the wireless remote so can not comment about it.

I use the RS-80N3. It works just like the shutter button on the camera [press halfway to get your read out and all the way to fire the shutter) Inexpensive and it works for those tele shots or when you don't have the light.
