why else would johnpaul claim to want to sell his 70-200 2.8 and his 200 1.8 ???
GOT ME THINKING...but if true it will be too rich for me I reckon
will know for sure on the 24th, no doubt

Surely the sheer size of this lens would be prohibitive.. unless they managed to get that "liquid element" thingy they were talking about a while ago happening to reduce the weight of each bit :p

have you seen the 200 1.8? its bigger than anything I'd want to carry around. the 70-200 is a 3 part system, with some of the best results of any zoom on the market, ever. Its also up there among the most popular and total sales.
he may sell the 200 1.8 for the sheer profit gain, its "worth" twice what the msrp was. as for anything else, thats his business.
The only way to subtract weight or size from a faster lens of equal focal length, is DO, and the DO's to date are awful, and way way overpriced

I think he is talking about speculation of two seperate lenses - a 200mm f/1.8 L IS, and a replacement to the 100-400mm L with either better IS or perhaps a constant speed (rumoured as f/4 but unlikely due to size/weight). He is a sports photographer after all.

Both lenses would be very welcome and long overdue. I agree on the constant f4 though. Weight and cost would limit sales though Nikon found it profitable to do so. I'd rather the current aged 100-400 was overhauled

I love it when Canon replaces one of my lenses and discontinues the older model.
My 75-300 IS is worth more now used on Ebay then I paid for it new years ago, thanks to the 70-300 IS.
If Canon releases a new 70-200mm and discontinues the older models we all will have a small window of opertunity to sell the old glass at a gain. :)
My buddy was going to sell his 28-70L because used prices are higher then when he purchased the lens new!

Haha, if he knew that something like a new 200/1.8 or even 70-200/<2.8 was coming up, he would already have sold his 200/1.8... as long as this lenses price is up there where it currently is.
Best regards,

I think he's considering selling it for the 70-200 f4L IS. Lighter. More compact.
