I quite like the composition and lighting from this, she was a bigger Jumper than the other one as well. Spotted her trying to hide, but eagle eyes Dave didn't miss it ;) I'm sure my peripheral vision has vastly improved since I've been doing macro.

Thanks! This was at 1:1, I rarely shoot any higher mag shots these days, just generally too lazy to get the tubes/50mm out lol. I tried cropping it, but there's something with this species, or the way I'm highlighting their body hairs with the flash, it just looks ugly when you crop. Could be cropping issue with the 1D as well. I'm working on saving for a 1D mark IIn down the track :)

Nice work. If you happen to work out your lighting issue let us know - I'm having exactly the same trouble.

Not really sure how to deal with it other than underexpose the entire spider and expose the front hairs correctly and then use the dodge tool to bring out the rest of the details of the body. I don't like doing it that way though, as it underexposes the background etc and it looks crud.
