I want to take some photos of the fast flowing radips at a local river.
I have seen pictures before that have the background looking rock solid and the flowing water looks kind of fuzzy/misty.
Is this done at exposure time or is it a something that is post processed?
Any help or links containing help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
Andy

I believe long exposures will give you that flowing misty effect.

I have played with longer exposures, but the whole shot becomes over exposed. I'm using a canon Ixus500 - do i need something with apeture control?

its done with a slow shutter speed... it all depends on how fast the water is moving, if its going at a good clip, you dont have to slow it down too much .. but, youll need a tripod and an ND filter if its sunny out, shlower shutter = more light= blown out pic! Try to do this, very early morn befor the sun is bright or early evening.. and be sure to use a tripod.. cant hand hold it long enough to keep everything crisp!
good luck!

if you can get filter adapters for it if not, do it on an either, overcast day or when the sun is not fully out. its a trial and error thing. I take it you can slow down the shutter on it?

well then try it like i said, low light, tripod, and do it at a few differnt speeds starting at 1/8th. ive had good results fro 1/8th to 1/6th even at 1/10th.
