I found a very energetic jumping spider today. Climbing all around my lemon tree. Tried to get some jumping shots but he was too fast. Next time I'll switch to 5 F/sec on the 30D and just chance the flash, I figure if I crank it down I might actually get one in mid air. Kinda messed the flash exposure a bit on these didn't bother to take the omnibounce down with me.

The Omnibounce would have toned down the flash here enough so the leaf wasn't as blown. Fangs for posing.

I was tring to get a air shot. Next shot in the series here was a empty leaf! He was far too quick for me.

Can I hitch a ride? At one stage I thought the jumper was chasing these guys.

As you said, the flash is harsh :( The pics are still nice :D

Not bad attempts Greg - flash a bit too harsh, use the FEC function on the flash (or camera if it has it) to adjust the flash output down/up as appropriate. I stick my 1D at 1/200 f11 and adjust flash exposure on the 1D via the fec button. I'll quite often take a test shot, see how it looks on the LCD screen and histogram (not having a LCD zoom on the 1D is a pain!!!), adjust as necessary and continue shooting. Quite often I adjust the FEC beforehand and see how the shot goes (and I'm usually reasonably spot on).

PS I caught a Jumper like this earlier today (yet another species), missing 2 legs, piccies to come. Well, one piccie, cos the rest were sh*te due to my poor attempt at photography ;)

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the comments, I often do much the same and preset the FEC at -1 even with the omnibounce on. Brain explosion yesterday, too keen to get downstairs and shoot.

LOL ... I did that the other day, it's a real pita when it happens and you don't notice until you see them on you monitor.

No. 2 would have been a cracking shot as well.

I have those days as well. There's nothing more depressing that taking what are some really nice shots, not checking your LCD cos you're so excited, then getting back and opening them with DPP and seeing too many highlights/overexposure etc...very sad :(
