I've been trying to decide what flash I should get for a while now, and I just can't seem to make up my mind. My 'local' camera store is having a tent sale right now, and I can pick up a Promaster 7500 something or other for like $80. Worth it to play with?

There is a link to my earlier queries. I'm going nuts trying to decide...

Thanks for any help!

What I have I read on this forum hints that it would be good to stay away from Promaster.

The Canon 430EX would be an excellent choice for use with the 300D. The 430EX has the ability to adjust the exposure by controls on the flash unit. The 300D is missing the FEC (Flash Exposure Compensation) function, and a flash that can let you tweak the exposures would be very beneficial.

I think that the hack I am using actually allows FEC, not that I know how to use it.

I think that the hack I am using actually allows FEC, not that I know how to use it.I believe, from what I've read, that the firmware hacks do enable FEC. If that works, then even a used 420EX might do well for you. Mine works great on my 20D, at least for the tasks I use it for. I don't try to use it as a substitute for my studio flash equipment.

I think I'm just going to get the 430EX for now, and maybe I'll pick up that Promaster one just because. I might stick it on my film camera or let my girlfriend use it. I'm not sure, but I think it can act as a flash-triggered slave, so maybe I'll try using it off-camera when I do macro shots.
