I like it the way it is. If you had got his full face in then I feel the background behing the child may have ruined the feel of the photo.

your caption sound like regrets from death row. jk lol anyway the photo is sharp and a great idea. I am the worst about not seeing problems until after the image has been downloaded off my camera. there is always next time.
