That bad huh. Oh well I'll keep trying. What about this one taken on the same day.
I would really appreciate some feedback, good or bad so I know how to improve my shots. It's my first SLR camera and I'm finding it a very steep learning curve.
Thanks for looking.

I can't get any idea of what you want your pictures to be about. It's your primary job, as photographer, to at least make that clear. After that, we can argue about technique.
[Not a criticism, but the sweets in the first picture look like meds to me; meds/sweets... same thing...]

I completely understand your point and it is a good one,
But.....
Can't a picture have merit just for being pleasing to the eye without being about anything?
Or am I just missing the point all together?
Thank you for your feedback though, it's something I will think about and work on when out with the camera from now on.

I think the first one has potential. It's out of focus though. Maybe a closer crop of the candy with just the scoop and I think it would look great. Also, maybe a little color enhancement on the candy would really put the primary focus on that. I like where you're going with it.
In regards to the second, I have no idea what you were trying for there.

"Ah young grasshopper... [strokes white beard, contemplates universe] in the beginning we are wowed by the SLR essence and we make pretty pictures with beautiful colours", and confucious say, "Painting with fingers -give me story!" :)
I recently read that -boiled down to the essentials- good photos scream "Interesting!" and as we look we are hooked - we discover other interesting layers. Layers of interest.

First one has potential, since it's slightly oof you could try sharpening or perhaps go for an intentional blurry look. I'd like to see a tighter crop with no distracting background stuff (some faint stuff there), and it'd be easy to make those colors pop.
You don't have image editing ok turned out otherwise I'd take a crack at it.
