I found the perfect AC converter for the car! It's a tiny one-piece unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter and provides a single receptacle. Current is limited to 0.7 to 1.0 Amp AC, but that should be plenty for a G3.

Price? $15. Location: Farm & Fleet. (I know it's regional, but odds are the same critter will pop up elsewhere).

Radio shack has something akin to this as well... Not sure on the price.

Pep Boys (an auto parts store) and I think Walmart also carry inverters. They are in the $15-20 range.

Why bother with an inverter? I bought a charger via eBay (Lenmar, I believe) with an AC adapter as well as a car cord for about $25. With that, the camera is not committed during charging (good if you have an extra battery).

I use mine to power the camera when I have it hooked onto my telescope and on most of the night. I have a deep cycle, 12v battery with cig-lighter outlets, like a car start emergency battery. I run a laptop, camera and telescope on this. It generally lasts through about 19 hours of constant use.
