View Full Version : Post your best Urban Safari shot (or you suck!)

While you don't need to go to the lengths of bouncing around town in a 4x4 (tho' many on a school run or shopping trip still do!) with just a little imagination you can pretend you are on safari within any urban wonderland.
If you have been on Urban Safari let's see the results :D

Okiewan, that is a fat Pigeon   and one legged too. Credit to that guy!
Kev ... you shot a very nice Wood Pigeon there, so we got some variety. Mine looks like a Racing Pigeon who lost his way. Okiewan's looks like a Racing Pigeon who lost his leg ;)
Claire, a good Duck shot is welcome. A crummy 'look at how cra**y my L is' shot is probably better posted in the gear forum.
... at SF Zoo;)
Man ... that is a fat pigeon
So, I am also wondering what Urban wildlife there could be here: Fox, Rat, Mouse, Fly, Sparrow, Starling, Ferral Cat ... erm ...

Man ... that is a fat pigeon
As I recall from the sign at the exhibit, the Bald Eagle was rescued and is no longer able to fly, she now lives unrestricted on a small island.
This pic is a bit more urban, California Highway Patrol Horse at the State Capital.

Man, seems taking an urban safari can be a bit ... erm ... boring. Basically we have variations on Pigeon, whether goose-stepping or not, a Horse and a big bald Budgie  More variety needed people ;) tho' a good Pigeon will continue to be welcome.

I dug out this one I took back in July - Its a little snail I found 'wandering' around the old patio table in the back garden.

He (or she?) was only about an inch long. I think I overdid the 'fill-in' flash a tad though...

Not quite, but the flash was only about 6 inches away from him/her (it?) and if they have eyes(?) it must have had a bit of a shock. If someone fired it that close to me I'd jump :-)

Thank you:) I like your snail. I searched my hard drive for something thats not a bird in a town setting... But unfortunately Portsmouth doesn't have quite the biodiversity I'd hoped. A seagull had to do:)

There are lots of foxes in London, but they rarely stay in sight long enough to get the telephoto lens out.
But they do make sure that the whole neighbour hood hears them mating in the middle of the night!

I saw tons of squirrels and foxes on the campus grounds when I lived in Richmond. Don't think I heard them mating though! I heard plenty enough of that within the dorms...

On the streets of Bangkok you can still occationally see elephants. You can buy the bananas to feed the elephant. (This should combine 'Urban' and 'Safari' perfectly.)
