Here is my first attempt at photographing my new puppy Kimber. She is a pure bread Boxer, with flashy fawn markings. She was born on 5-31-2006 so that makes her 10 weeks and 3 days old. I am looking for input and critiques, I have been reading a lot about photography and have taken some self study courses. Thanks for the input.

Cute puppy, but it suffers from the most typical problem.
We, as two legged humans always see puppies looking up at is.
If you want to post a puppy shot worth looking at, then show me something I don't always see. Get down to puppy level and shoot horizontally, get me into the puppy's world!!! - not just looking at the puppy's world! Involve me, don't keep me separate.

Hope you got a model release from the pup.
Looks like you got yourself a right poser there, I agree with Palmbayflo get down level but mind the pup does'nt think the lens is a squeaky toy  maybe a bit better background rather than a stone slab.
I'm sure the pup will give you plenty opportunity for more shots and action ones too.

Other than the setup... what does everything think about the focus and the exposure. She is just learning how to sit so I have to take golden moments when I get them. I will spend a lot more time with her and get better shots. Thanks for the ideas, and let me know about the expsoure, framing, etc.

Although I like shots of animals at their level, I think this shots works well. It emphasizes the face. I would prefer the paws to be as in focus as the rest. Plus, make sure you look all aroung the frame to make sure you are not cutting off any part of the subject. That bottom paw is just too close to the edge.
On second thought, maybe the focus is good for really bringing out the face. I guess it could go both ways.

Second set is better but I think You can get even lower. Maybe try putting the camera all the way down on the grown. The photo in my avatar was shot with the camera on the floor.

I like all of your shots. Cute puppy! For the first shot I do like the perspective, but I would prefer it a little less centered and with the paws away from the edge so much. FOr the next set, like those too, but again, a little off centering IMO would make for shots with more impact. The second shot in the second set is absolutely precious.
