Windows XP Home Ed SP2. After installing the software and then connecting the camera via USB: XP found the Camera and installed it and then asked which software to use to open it and I chose EOS by mistake. Tried everything from total software and hardware uninstall and reinstall to no luck. Oviously there is a switch in the registry settings that needs to be corrected. Anyone Please?
Thanks.
Problem solved!

I found this!
This will fix it:
Click Start and then Run. In the box type SERVICES.MSC and press Enter. Canon Camera Access Library should be Started and set to Automatic.
Right click on Canon Camera Access Library service and choose Properties. Click on the Dependencies tab you will see that the service is depending on two services of the operating system - SSDP Discovery Service and WIA. If any of these two are disabled, Canon service won't start and you won't be able to download your pics. Make sure the services are set to Automatic.
And it works!
Scroll down and check these services (SSDP and WIA) and make sure that they are enabled (click on start) and set to automatic. Then go to the Canon Camera Access Library service and click start and make sure it is also set to Automatic.
After that restart the Camera and after about 1 minute everthing should start!
