I know that these are the on-site color.. but.. where does it come from and ... how do you catch it on film?

Nothing like that here -- except ina rainbow!

Howie,

This Canyon gets sunlight through the top of the tall Sandstone walls during certain times of the day. The light that shines through luminate the rocks as if they are on fire or glow. The pictures are pretty easy to get. Long exposures and experimenting with dof. The sandstone range in color to light orange to reds and blues in the rock. When the light comes into areas of the canyon, the sandstone light up like a flashlight with your hand over the top...you know how the red plastic glows or the light through your hand make it look luminus...that is how certain areas of the canyon look. As the sun changes position so too does the light and lumination in the canyon. It is truely magical.

Well ... thanks for sharing your secret.

To my memory, it is a minority who come away with such wonderful color. Well done. Framed and a couple of feet wide, 3 or 4 of these would look great over a sofa in a bachelor pad -- hummm ... now for my next reincarnation ... let me see !
