View Full Version : G3 Belt Case?

Hi All=

I know there have been many discussions here about camera bags, but haven't found what I'm looking for. I'd like a small case that will just fit the G3 with nothing else except a memory card, that will fit on a belt, and be reasonably comfortable. I hate the Lowe Pro DRes line because the CF pockets are not secure - I previously lost a remote from one of them on another camera.

I can get the G3 into a Tamrac Digital 3 or Digital 4, but it's tight, and doesn't slip in easily. LowePro Nova Mini or Micro would work, but they don't have the nice narrow profile of the Tamrac line.

Anyone found anything more ideal for this use?

Thanks,
Michael

Have you tried the Tamrac Digital 5693?

I have a small belt case I got from Wolf Camera, made by Quantarey. It cost about $12. The main pocket just holds a G3 with the lens barrel. The little outer pocket holds a couple of spare batteries and a couple of filters. Under the top flap is a pocket for a couple of flash cards.

I had this on a rucsac belt for a month trekking. Worked a treat, and very cheap.

There's an actual case for belt carrying made for the G3 by Canon. It's not marketed in the US for some reason, but they can be found on eBay. I bought one, and it's really handy. Nice velcro closures, and it holds just the camera.

It's a little large for hanging on my hip, so I shift it rearward just a bit to avoid brushing against things (people in crowds, etc) bit I also use it when I'm on a motorcycle. Super handy.

Which Quantaray case are you using?

Thanks,
Michael

5693 is the same as the Digital 3 - it goes in, but it's a VERY tight fit - takes two hands to get it into the case.

I got a Canon case when I bought the camera that just fits the camera. With a storage slot for the remote and possibly a CF card, that has a belt loop. I don't use it as it won't carry the rest of my stuff. While it's expensive ($Cdn 35 list). It may be of use to you. The Canon Part Number is SC-DC10.

Understand I've gone throught 2 camera cases

1) Canon SC-DC10 - Protect the Camera
2) Tamrac 5696 - Camera and Bits (Best size)
3) LowePro Nova3 - Camera and Stuff.

Hope this helps.

Michael, I'm afraid that I have no idea what it was called, I just took the camera in which my accessories and tried all the ones they had. This was the cheapest. It's stood up to months of trekking and assorted abuse. Very pleased with it.

Have been using my "fanny-pack". Has enough room for the camera and a CF card and remote and fits nicely around the waist.

I just bought a Tek 4396 by Tamrac for $18 at Circuit city. It may be cheaper but I leave Saturday on vacation. I think it is the same as 5696 or Digital 6.

I has a belt and sholder strap.

I can fit my:

Canon G3 with 52mm Lensmate adaptor, Ultra-violet filter, and lenscap attached

Lenmar Mach1 charger (with power supplies and car adapter)

Hoya InfraRed 52mm filter in hard plastic case (because of the cool pics I saw on this forum)

a wallet with two extra compact flash cards

an extra battery

the remote in a hard plastic case

It is a somewhat tight fit. After I get to my destination I will leave the charger out and the camera and adapter will fit easily.

I took a picture of it but don't know how to attach it.
