Hi everyone - I've been lurking around this forum for a while and now that I finally have my 300D I have a few questions:

1) I bought a 12" cable release for tripod shots, but I can't seem to find a place on the camera to attach this to. Am I missing something obvious, or does the camera not have this feature?

2) I'm going to be heading to Europe very soon for a three-week trip, and am worried that the battery will die before I get back. I bought a simple kit of outlet adapters for the charger, but will I also need a converter?

Thanks!

I can't help you with the European voltage question, but a standard cable release doesn't work on much of anything anymore, especially Canon Digital SLR's.

According to Canon's website, the RS-60E3 remote switch is what you really need . It looks like about a $25 item.

On my charger, it lists the input voltage as 100V - 240V, and the frequency as 50/60Hz, so you should be ok just about anywhere.

I have the USA version, I'm sure the European versions come with different plug styles. You'll probably need an adapter.

For a remote release, the wireless remote RC-1 will also work.

If you look on the back of the battery charger, it says: INPUT: 100V - 240V ac 50/60Hz.

In the USA you have 110V, 60Hz; in Europe we have 220V, 50Hz in most places. That means your charger will work in Europe. You do ofcourse need an adapter plug because American plugs don't fit in European sockets.

Standard, old-fashioned mechanical cable release cables do not work with modern electronic cameras. You need a specific electronic cable release for the 300D (look in the manual if you want to know which one is necessary), or the infrared remote control RC-1 (which is about $20 - $25 in the USA).

Well that's great news abou the voltage - sounds like I'll be fine with just the adapters I have.

Didn't invest too much in the cable release so no biggie. I did find a place in town that sells the RS-60E3 so I'll be picking that up tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help!

Will the RC1 remote control work with 10D?
;)

No. It's only for EOS cameras with built-in IR capabilities. You need the LC4 Wireless Controller (Lotsa' money.)

The infrared remote control RC-1 (I still have it from my 15 years old EOS 10 film body) works with the 300D.
