What is this bird?

I was wading down the Stones river chasing an uncooperative blue heron when I saw this one--and he let me get fairly close (30' or so). What is it?
It is a small bird compared with the heron. Thanks for any help.

Yes it is a Green Heron (Green back Heron). They are one of the smaller members in the Heron family.

Thanks, I did get some of the GBH but only from a distance. For every step I took, he took two in the opposite direction. And I was scared to death I would slip in the water and drop my camera!
