I realize these are not very good, but they are some of the better ones I have taken..these auxilery gyms are the worst for light!

You keep getting better and better. Continue to work on getting those great facial expressions, keeping the ball in the frame, capturing peak action, and not cutting off appendages. Keep shooting and posting! :)

I love the last two, getting the players in the air. You did well with the light.

Liza...question on the limbs part. Mostly when I crop I have been only worring about the player I am focusing on. Should I worry about the limbs of the players not the focus of the shot?

Please keep CC, I really like your stuff...

check out more of my recent sport shots in the "sports" gallery in my website and let me know how to imporve more.....the link is at the bottom of my signature...please be as specific as possible so I get the intent right and dont screw up further...LOL

I love basketball pics. Thanks.

You might want to play around with custom white balance. I have found it to be very helpful. Also setting the ISO to 1600 is a good idea.

Think of it this way. When someone else looks at the picture, they don't know who you were focusing on. I know it's hard to get everything in the image sometimes. I don't always do it either. If you have to cut off part of a limb just don't do it at the joint.

little kids in poor lighting are a challenge for even the best of photographers... it does look like your really getting a grasp of how to deal with the situation. On that last shot... man that kid in blue has some springs... I am impressed!

Thanks...I do have to learn the custom WB tech... I have read how to do it, but never tried it in actuality....I feel so embarassed to say that, it seems so simple and produces such good results...

Could you please explain how you do it and what you use? Make it simple for me....LOL

Also, I thought I did have the ISO set at 1600? On most of these (all the boys shots for sure) I think I did...

also, I shot all the boys shots right after an eye appt where they dialated my eyes...I just shot and hoped for the best...LMAO...I got really lucky considering....LOL

Well, I just learned this trick this summer when I got my new Rebel XT. A friend of mine, who knows a lot more about photography than I do, explained it to me.

You need to take a sample picture of a white card...something flat...in the light you will be shooting. Some say a gray card, but I used the back of index card that was kind of off white and it worked well. Use manual focus and fill the image with the card. Don't let any shadows in.

One of the menu Items says "Custom White Balance". Select that and up pops the last picture you shot...the sample you just took. Select that image and it tells you to now turn on Custom White Balance, a few options up on the same menu. In there, go to the icon on the lower right hand corner...it should say custom...and select.

Problem is you have to remember you have custom off. I often forgot when the game was over and took pictures elsewhere. They come all blue and purple. Remeber to set it back to auto.

Hope that helps.
