Hi, I found this forum while trying to find answers to why there is haze under the glass of my new Canon 5000F scanner. Now, I've owned three scanners and all have had haze under the glass, I'm just curious why its there, if it negatively effects the image quality and if there is anything I can do about it (except return it for another one that is just as likely to suffer the same problem). I'm starting to suspect that glass haze is just a normal occurance, I'm I right?

I also have a question about my new i860 inkjet, but I'll save that for another time.

I have this crappy haze on my HP Scanjet 3400C I bought two years ago. Not sure how to get at it to clean it. It does affect photos when you scan them.

Interesting. The scanner that this one replaced is a 4300c. It also had a haze under the glass. My guess is, most people just don't notice it, you actually have to be looking for it.

My scanner is several years old and also has a haze under the glass. I suspect it's from the heat of the bulb vaporizing any humidity and gases which then condense on the glass. I don't think it actually has much effect on the photo, unless maybe it's a pretty thick buildup. You could probably figure out how to disassemble the scanner and clean it, but I'm sure each scanner is different as to the difficulty of doing that.

robertdrake~~Hello :)
The 3 scanners I've owned all had the haze thing going on. If you still have your instruction book it's fairly easy to take the glass off and clean it really good. All you will need is a screwdriver that will match up with the screws.
