Just purchased a Digital Rebel, put micro drive into camera took 1/2 dozen shots & then placed into reader.
Not able to read microdrive, put back into camera-- Error 2 , microdrive won't work.
Any suggestions ?

It certainly sounds like the drive is toast. If you bought both the drive and the camera at the same place, I'd take the whole thing back and let them sort it out for you. From what I understand, these types of failures are generally fatal (i.e. non-recoverable), so there's little sense messing around with the thing trying to get it to work. Besides, if it failed once, there's an excellent chance it will do it again when there's a lot more than a half dozen pictures at stake.
Every time I hear a story like this, it causes me to cringe. The transfer rates of a micro-drives are appealing, I know, but there sure seems to be a lot of failures from what I read in this forum. The recent story of the fellow who did a friend's wedding and had the drive fail before he was able to copy them onto his PC is tragic.
I'm more convinced than ever that I'm sticking with CF cards. I can afford the extra time they need for reading and writing.

Prior to first use, was there ever any thought of formatting the card?

So, Tom, what is the going rate for rental space in your signature line?

For you, really cheap! Let's talk. BTW, that's a good thought about formatting. I didn't realize they shipped those drives unformatted, but that could easily be a problem if true. Do you format it in the camera or in your PC?

Whenever I have purchased CF cards in the past, I have always formatted them in the camera. That gets the most consistent results, I understand. However, if you get to the point where the camera "throws up" over a CF card, then you have little choice but to try to format it in a CF card reader that is hooked up to your computer, and then try to pick the correct formatting type if you are given any choice. Further, I would certainly run a good disk utility on any troublesome card.
In contrast, if you simply unwrap a CF card fresh from the factory, you don't know whether it is formatted, or if it is, then what type. Hell, the store might have even sold it previously, the original purchaser screwed it up, and then it was returned to be sold again to you! Anything is possible.

Rent? Really cheap?
How about a rental/lease with option to buy?
How many square feet is it?

Well, on my monitor it's about 1/2" X 12". That's 1/24 of a square foot. At $1.50 per square foot (full service, of course), that works out to about 6 cents a month.
Regarding a lease with option to purchase, somehow I think Pekka might have something to say about that.
Anyway, this level of finance is well beyond me right now. I think I'll just go to bed and rest my weary old brain for a few days.

Hmmm, 1/24 of a square foot.
Would there be enough space for me to hang out a shingle that says "Will shoot for rent money"?
Oh, is that property rent-controlled?
