My wife and I recently saw the grand canyon, and I just HAD to get up early and take pictures of the sunrise. Just before the sun cleared the canyon, pictures were great, but once I got a full dose of it, I started seeing some spots in the pictures. Should I have had some type of filter or extra lens?
I've reduced the size and quality of these, but I imagine this will still do the trick.
Thanks for ANY suggestions!!!

That's lens flare - you tend to get that whenever you've got a light source in the picture and able to bounce light right off one or more of the lens elements. There's not a lot your can do about it; if the light source is striking the front of the lens, but not directly in the picture, a lens hood (or shading the front of the lens with your hand) will help, but that's about it.

I just took this sunrise along the Maine coast yesterday morning with my S2. I used the lens adapter and a FD filter. Maybe it was the lens adapter but none of my sunrise shots had the "flare".

There appears to be a little bit on the water just above the center (rock? buoy?); reddish.
