I'm using ZoomBrowser EX 2.8 (Version 6) with my Canon G2 and have experienced a problem that I need help with.
I was moving some pictures around inside different folders in my library when somehow a duplicate folder appeared [in the library]. This duplicate folder was empty of any pictures. (The original folder still had all the pictures.) So I tried to delete the empty (duplicate) folder but the PC's hourglass remained for a long time so I decided to use CTRL+ALT+DELETE to view the task list and it said that ZoomBrowser EX was "not responding". So I then clicked "End Task". After doing this I tried to open the Cannon ZoomBrowser program but now it won't let me!
When I try to open ZoomBrowser a window pops up that says: "Failed to open database file C:\Program Files\Canon\ZoomBrowser EX\Database\My Database.zbd" Please ensure that the database exists, and that both the file and directory are not read-only. If this error persists, the database file may have been corrupted." After clicking on the "Okay" button another window pops up that says: "Zoombrowser EX will now exit. Please re-run ZoomBrowser EX again and open or create another database."
I have no idea what to do to fix this. Can anyone help me? I'll be very appreciative. Thanks!

I uninstalled ZoomBrowser EX and re-installed it from the original disk. I now have access to my image library but my camera (or card reader) won't communicate with the program.
The ImageBrowser appears (with the images on the flash card) so the USB port obviously works but I cannot download the images into a library. I get the message "The RPC server is unavaible". Then when I click on "OK" another window pops up and it says: "Failed to copy file. Possible causes are: the camera is not connected properly, the battery level is too low, the source file is missing or read-only, the target folder is missing or read-only, or the target file exists and is read only. This happens regardless of whether I use the camera (connected to the PC) or a card reader.
When I go to "Camera Settings" everything looks okay - with my name and the camera model, etc.
I tries uninstalling the USB TWAIN driver and then re-installing it. When I connected the camera to the PC and turned the camera on I was hoping that a "wizard" window would appear so I could enter the camera information be it didn't. Instead a window popped-up that requested where I wanted the images to be downloaded to. I chose ZoomBrowser EX. The other options were "Imaging" and "Adobe" (I think). After clicking "OK" another window popped-up that had a place for the camera model but only "NONE" was available in the drop-down box. I was hoping G2 would have been available!
What am I failing to do right? Why can't I download the images from the ImageBrowser into one of my libraries?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, apparently no one knew the answer to my problem or they didn't want to help or offer any advice...
I just wanted to let you know that I downloaded the latest version of ZoomBrowser EX, which over-wrote everything in the older version I was using. (I still had the same problem!) I then once again uninstalled everything, keeping only my images in separate folders (for added protection) and started an absolutely fresh install. That is what finally fixed whatever was wrong with my original ZoomBrowser program.
I certainly hope that others receive more help or attention than I recieved here. Good luck!

did you have zoombrowser running when you uninstalled it?
I think you could of just deleted the camera database file and then restarted zoombrowser - it just uses that file to cache image information i beleive.
Also doing an uninstall may not of removed the corrupted file ...
What version of windows ?

Don't blame people on a volunteer forum that your problem isn't solved.

Please, I'm different. I'm not like the rest of them. I truly did try to help you. Read the "Saddest Day of My Life, Ever" thread on the Canon EOS-D forum to find what these people are really like.

Waste of time. I twill go down soon again, and then you have to do everything over.

One option would be to uninstall ZoomBrowser and then go into your Program Files directory and actually delete the ZoomBrowser directory structure completely. This should remove any wayward files or junk that is causing a full reinstall to mess up. Actually, all the Canon utilities should be uninstalled and their directories deleted, since they may cross shares files.
This should fix your problem.
If not, toss ZoomBrowser, get BreezeBrowser and a USB compact flash reader and liberate yourself from that horrible tool!
Hope this helps...

Hi,
I just found this post. I too had a major Zoombrowser crash several months ago. I had been traveling for a year and ALL my photos were stored on the Zoom drive. All I had was a bright white screen and nasty error message. I had no backup drive (big mistake). I literally panicked, posted and had no reply. It took some time, but when I finally calmed down enough to think straight. I was able to find my files by reading through other peoples posts. There was one that was the Godsend. I moved them to safe quarters, backed up on CD rom's and then a couple of months later got brave enough to update Zoom to see what would happen. I think the program is awful and I no longer will use it. I will delete it when I get brave enough to believe all my stuff is backed up and it won't delete something critical.
As for this forum. I have found that aside from those Zoom postings everyone has been OVER THE TOP wonderful! I think people don't answer the Zoom stuff because many people have stopped using it because of it's crash potential. It's very friendly here and I am a former pro 35mm photographer, newbie digital. I could not be without this group and even though I might now always have something to add, no one seems to care, there is information to be shared and hopefully I too (like this post) can someday help someone from what I have learned from others here and my own trial and error. Good luck with Zoom, my advice don't use it!

I wonder how many other post this Kooter read through to see if he could help anyone else? As he has only 7 posts and 5 of them are this thread, I'm guessing not many....but everyone should drop what they are doing for him....

Don't bother with ZoomBrowser ver 2.x or 3.x. It is flawed by design.
Upgrade to version 4.x here:
http://powershot.com/powershot2/customer/zoombrowser.html
Be sure to copy any images from Image Library One (C:\Program Files\Canon\ZoomBrowser) to My Pictures folder (or other location of your choice). As you will not be able to access the Program Files directory from ZB 4.x
