Hi. I currently own the 20d & obviously can't take it out partying on new years, or I might end up calling my insurance agent reporting a loss...haha.

Anyway...I am looking for a good p & s that I can take out clubbing on new years. It has to be fast & have good light in the low light conditions. Know what I mean?! There's nothing more frustrating than trying to get a funny shot & missing it, cus the camera was still "thinking" about it.

Also, I don't want the photos blurry...obviously.

I don't care about megapixels, cuz I don't think they'd be any bigger than a 4x6. If I did anything, it would be a 5 x 7 at most.

Can you help? - send me the model number & perhaps an example of what you did in a club situation??!? Am I searching for something that doesn't exist yet? or that is just as expensive as my 20d?!?

Thanks

I bought the Canon SD700IS which might help in your situation. $499 at the local Best Buy here. It has image stabilization and is 6mp. Quite a decent little camera. Isnt it a bit early to be shopping for a camera for New Years? :)

Yes it is, but I hate to just buy it that day or week & then go out & not be comfortable with it to enjoy myself.

i would wait a bit... you'll find new models will be released for xmas (sony has a new p&s that is supposedly suited for low light, though i think it just has some rubbish noise reduction thingy built in..:)) and other manufacturers may release more point and shoots with IS. they will also be cheaper for xmas. i dont think ive seen a p&s thats had an aperture wider than 2.8... but i may be wrong. so, IS could be pretty useful here.

I totally agree. I think in low light, IS is almost a must. No matter how steady you are, it's never good enough.
I plan on waiting a bit, but I'm not home very much, & these things usually take me a while to pick out. It's never too early to start looking. There's so many options out there, it takes a bit to understand them all.
