Did any of you read the Popular photography test results?

Down at EV3-4 and lower the Digital Rebel/300D actually outperforms even the 1Ds in AF speed!

From EV7-12 it focuses @ approx 0.4 seconds.. in line with the 10D, Fuji S2, and new Olympus E1

At EV 3 -EV6 the 300D was still between 0.4 and 0.55 seconds,. where as the most others are slowing down to 0.80-0.95 in this range. Even the 1Ds was slightly slower.

At EV2 the rebel took a mere 0.6 to focus,.. the 10D was 0.95 where the 10D bottoms out.

The Rebel on the other hand continues to focus down to EV1!!!!!!! with a super fast time of 0.75!!!!

This is Nikon D1H territory and TWICE as fast as the 1Ds at EV1!

Amazing.

There is new AF technology packaged in the 300D/Rebel that thus far no other Canon DSLR has. Wow. (except the 1D perhaps? )

Cool. That means the next generation of cameras will be even faster than that! That's great news.

Is this where we start the petition? ;)

Color me skeptical.

I have a bit more trust in www.dpreview.com, which says about the 300D's low-light AF performance:

"Overall performance was virtually identical to the EOS 10D (taking test error into account), this is what we would expect as both cameras utilize the same AF sensor."

The Pop Photo review doesn't even say what lenses were used on the different cameras.

This just shows how fast stuff is changing, and it almost seems like light speed isn't fast enough. I'm looking fwd to the updated 10D or is it an EOS 3D type??? We saw what DIGIC did, and then the AF bit what next? Id like to see a camera that can do what the human eye can. That is autoadjust correctly for incandescant light, flourescent light, sunlight, etc and not have to do it manually. Hmmm...make me think and wonder. Canon should be releasing a new camera in December/January, if it is on time. It is a wild guess there.

Yes, I am also in doubt about the 300D out-perform AF speed. It should be similar to 10D as similar config apply.

I agree - if Dpreview says they are using the same sensor (and I believe that to be true) and they are both using the same DIGIC processor, then they are probably the same. Put some 2.8 L glass on either one and they will focus quickly in nearly any condition.
