Hey would any photoshop gurus like to help me design a logo for my business cards, stationary., etc.... I do not have one and would like one. It will not be used as a water mark.

If this an innapropriate question, mods please remove.

Just been messing about in photoshop for 10 mins, not sure I like it anymore but i'll post anyway! Its obviously not useful for headed paper and things... and there is no logo... But anyway, you might get some kind of an idea from it! I do like the photo:)

are you planning on getting your own domain?
yes....when I start booking enough people and making the money to justifuy it. :)

I was asked to do some work for a non profit social event, no pay buy great advertising. They asked for my business card or a logo that they could use to help promote me and the event. Thats why I am begging for help!

thanks,
kathy

do you want your name to be the logo or the display or a design
for planning ahead you might purchase your domain now (I use godaddy) and then later on you can get your site up. .
it is if you own the domain kathypattersonphotography.com you may want to make sure you say kathy patterson photography on your card, just trying to establish some branding for later on.

Kathy buying the domain right now and setting it aside so its reserved and no one else uses it is easy through yahoo and it is 2.95 for the first year. I would do it and renew it at the end of the fiscal year 9.99, this way it is reserved. Now that aside I made a small attempt at a Logo, if you like it or want me to elaborate on this design feel free to use it or let me know what youd like, it is just an idea right now.

cool, thanks for the info. I am going for a more 'elegant' feel. i definitly need to check into a domain name...the ones i had seen before were something like 40 a month...just not ready for that plunge.. but 2.99-9.99...thats more my kinda deal!

Thanks for playing KonTiki, I really wanted to use GI as my buisness name...I will be going tomorrow to get my tax# and assumed name info to use it. The reason for that is we have two local photographers using both parts of my name....so just trying to keep it seperate.

i would love to see more ideas :)

domain names can be purchased very cheaply ie $80 for ten years
when you have a domain you do not need to put a site up
you just need to have it so when you are ready you own the domain
it is putting them on a server that has the monthly fees
these vary, i use crystaltech ($8 a month) but there are many out there
try and have you business name and domain the same
personally i would get the domain first, then your dba etc.

Kathy, I agree with BACKLOT about getting your domain name and then checking out hosting options.

If you don't fancy coding a site yourself, or employing someone to do it, some of the gallery sites let you link your domain name to your gallery ion their servers.

Should you opt for a hosting package and self coding, be aware that some hosting companies, like some camera stores, are not as good as their homepage would have you believe - I speak from experience here! :( You can check them out on review sites like findmyhosting.com (http://www.findmyhosting.com) or others.

Jatol.com are competetive, offer feature laden packages (including pre-installed galleries like coppermine) and have a great support team & user forum - www.jatol.com (http://www.jatol.com)

When you get ready to have your cards printed check out these guys, they printed mine and they look fantasatic. 1000 cards printed 4/0 on 15 pt stock with UV coating was $39.

If you use overnight prints, and you type in coupon code happyhoildays you get 10 bucks off your order

I got mine printed there, they were cheap, you get what you pay for. They looked pretty good, but also kinda cheap. For the price you can't beat it though..

Kathy I feel your pain with setting it all up. I did my domain the yahoo route and have my web page there. I web designer friend of my designed it for me, although the Heron logo was my idea. It was a problem though because I am a coding idiot and not interested in learning so I got Smugmug about a month ago, and it is remarkable. I can upload pics in a heartbeat and they look fabulous. I just had my friend point all traffic from my website to the Smugmug galleries. The problem I have is I do so many different types of shooting, Sports, photojournalism, nature and contemporary art. I almost feel like I need a different card/logo for each. This thread has brought some really creative, talented to light, i.e Stupot and Lindsi. wow! Good luck with getting everything set up.

They are now printing on a 15 pt. stock which is VERY heavy for a business card. Color and regestration looked good on mine.

Kathy - If you want to see one, PM me an address and I'll mail one to you.
