The composition is great, but the excessive sharpening really detracts from the picture, in my opinion. Was that done in post processing?

It is barely sharpened. I adjusted the curves in the dark area to emphasize the mineral deposits on the wall and give it a grainy feel in contrast to the more elegant stone face curving around on the left side.
