Thanks Mike! Anyone else want to tell us which lenses they will take?
I'll probably just bring the 35mm I think. Maybe the 135mm as well for some people shots, but I'm not sure. If I'm going to be wandering around most of the day I'll probably pack light.
Actually there's now a chance I won't be able to get to Brisbane at all that weekend, unfortunately :( Perhaps put me back to the "maybe" list. I should know more tomorrow or Monday.

I guess the 10-22 will be on the camera for the sunrise, then the 24-105 will probably return to it's usual place, although if I want to do some tele candids on comes the 70-200. I'll have the tripod with me for the start of the day. Depends how I feel whether I carry it for the day - I guess I'll make the decision on the day when we work out where we're going after the sunrise. Might bring a couple of primes too, your camera bag can never be too heavy.:) This all going into the CompuTrekker - laptop will definitely stay at home as it make the bag too heavy, mmmm doesn't that just contradict what I just said in the last sentence.
Planning on leaving the 105 Macro at home, plus a few others I don't think will be required.
I will have my hand held GPS receiver (GPSr) with me also so we can geolocate our photo's if we want. I'll email anyone who wants a .gpx tracklog file at most GPS software will read. See this post here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=210902)from a few days ago on what you can get from this.
I have a small Lowepro belt that GPSr and water bottles hang from if I'm bushwalking. I probably use this on the day. I'll look like a pack horse but it's not too bad to carry around if you do it regularly.

I'm sorry but I wont be able to lend any lenses, as all I have got is the two 350d kit lenses. But borrowing lenses wont be a problem! If anyone is keen, I would love to use an L glass lens, even if its just for one shot. But like others have said if you don't feel comfortable lending lenses, then don't. I am really looking forward to this!

I am bringing mine. Nick, i'd like to see that macro lens. Would u like to borrow my monopod? Or share my tripod, i have a spare mount that u can put on your camera and we can then just swap over. Ony thing is that i only have a regular tripod, not a heavy duty one.(giotto)...
Appreciate the offer, Tina. I do have a monopod and I've been trying to find a decent sling/case to carry it in so I could take it with the shoulder bag. No luck so far. I may take you up on the offer of sharing your tripod. Depends what we come across I suppose. If you have your new camera by the weekend (my fingers are crossed for you) you're more than welcome to give the macro a whirl on it.

12-24 is a given as is the 18-55, the 50 might stay at home but then it only weighs what 50 odd grams so that doesn't add too much weight. The 24-85 will probably stay at home with my film body since I just finished my last roll of film :(. That just leaves the 70-200 which I need to use more so that of course will be in the bag. mmm that doesn't leave much room for food/water.
Nick I will have to show you the rig that I have made up for my tripod - it could easily be used for a monopod as well.

hey nick.c , do you reckon i would be able to use your macro lens ? just to get a feel of what it is like being able to get really close, i used to love macro when i could do it on the old snapshot but macro lenses cost to much for me in the SLR world. plus I need another lens to add to the wishlist :D
p.s. what is the age range of the people joining us on this outing that is going to be awesome?

Tina, Of course I shall pack the tubes for you.
Justin, as far as age goes, I expect I shall be older than your Dad, and probably the oldest amongst us, as I'm 64 yrs young, but don't worry too much about being with the "Living Dead", I'll keep up with you.

mike, thats great! I'm not worried about anyone's age, I was just curious...and now I am fascinated. Youngest - 15, Oldest - 64, I think that this is awesome how we all share the same passion and can get along, with this large age difference, cool!

great! another youngin, and congratulations on getting the 350d, you must be happy because I sure was! Is it the silver or black body? Mine is the silver although I really wanted the black one and they didn't have any in stock. Now I wish I had of waited 2 more extra days to get the black one...but I wanted the dslr asap! lol.

welcome ospi, hope u can make it.
Justin, i am 47, so sort of heading towards the older end of the group. I too am really looking forward to this day out as well.
Mat, hope u can make it
Mike, just one tube will do, so that i can see what they are and do. Many thanks.
Nick, I will pack whatever i have in the boot. My monopod only has the carry bag it came with, and that just slips over the shoulder. (like my tripod)
greg, i am drowning in technology!, but i will be interested to see your gadget, and how it works.

Not a problem, Justin.
On the topic of age, I'm toward the younger end on 23 and I think, between us all we may have teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s covered. That's a pretty good spread and should make for an interesting day.
Hello Ospi, look forward to hearing that you'll be joining us.
Helen: Happy Birthday for Monday!!!

Well if you want to carry it Justin, you can borrow the 70-200f/2.8L for the day. As long as it comes back in one piece, I'll be happy:D Let me know and I'll pack it.
Also, I'm bringing the Panosaurus, so I'll probably get there a bit earlier:rolleyes: to set up and do a panoramic for the first shot.

i'd like to see the panarama shots being done!
As long as it comes back in one piece, I'll be happy
this brings me to a serious note, and i think that this should then be an understood acceptance of the day out.
Borrow by all means if the lender is happy to lend, but if u drop/scratch/break it, you relace/fix it. Lend by all means, but remember accidents do happen, and the item may be out of service till fixed/replaced. If in doubt, don't! I know that this is very very unlikely to happen, but knowing upfront is always better.
Off to brisbane today, so might swing by the park and get a look, and check out the oxley westlands.

AAArrrggghhhhh!! The park under the story bridge is horrible! However, in my wanderings and getting lost, i discovered the "thornton st ferry". This is not far from the park, and much better. I will describe it better on the other forum, but i recommend we all meet there.

I can bring a Sigma 18-125 for someone to borrow for the day if anyone is interested?? It has been boxed up since last year and not likely to be used again by me. I've been thinking about getting rid of this as the box is only collecting dust.
I've got the Sigma 18-125, Canon 24-85 and last November I purchased the EF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM. My champagne colored copy of the 24-85 compares very very well to the 24-105. These older copies of the 24-85 have a reputations as being almost L quality if you have a good one. I have! This is still a keeper even with the 24-105 in the kit now.
I had the 24-85 from my old EOS IX when I bought my 300D but wanted more reach on my walk around lens so I bought the Sigma EF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6. It just seemed to be unreliable when it came to focusing. I could nail shots with the 24-85 and then the 18-125 would be inconsistent. I will say that I found most of the negative comments about the 18-125 lens to be true, its slow to focus, especially in bad light. It does ok when in good light and the zoom ratio's are perfect for a walk around lens. Don't get me wrong, I did get some really great shots from this lens, but not as often as I expected and I had to work hard for them. Almost as if I was working against the lens. The 24-105 lives on the camera now.
So did I scare you off with the tale of woe - just giving my honest opinion hate for someone to borrow it for the day and walk away from the day unhappy.

maltsti, that is a shame. Maybe next time! However, we will still be out and about if you care to join us a bit later? After the dawn shoot, we propose to hop on a cat and go downstream, and maybe even a bus to the gardens or something, and lunch somewhere, so if u would still like to come and meet us if only for an hour or two, let me know, i'll pass on my mobile number so u can ring to see where we are and if it is viable to get there.

Have a look around - there is a Brisbane section that accepts people from Lismore and the Central Coast and there is an Aussie section...
... as well as the rest of the site which has the interesting stuff.
