First I like to say hello. I'm new to this Board/Forum but have read a lot of useful info here in the past couple of days.

I'm an average digital camera user and some of the language is still Greek to me but that's why I have the instruction manual.

I bought a Canon Digital Rebel this past Friday. I've taken 246 photos so far with it and I'm quite happy with the results especially after I "tune" them up a little in Photoshop.

This is my third digital camera.

I started out with a Sony Mavica camera but didn't stay with that for long.

I then went to an Olympus C-4040 Zoom. I still like the Olympus and have taken some good photos with it but, I wanted the ability to change lenses as I used to do with my 35mm cameras and I needed something that wrote to the memory a little faster.

The Rebel was within my current budget and with an extra 10% off coupon in hand, I bought it.

What are some thoughts on the Sigma 28-200mm f3.5-5.6 DL Aspherical Hyperzoom Macro lens for the Rebel?

Thanks.

I too, just bought the Digital Rebel. What a great camera. I can use my Canon 75-300 and love the 1.6 effect on that! I also have a Tamron 28-80 Asph, get really good results with that too.
I upgraded from a Panasonic 2.1 megapixel with a Leica lens. I thought that camera did a great job, but it doesn't compare to the Rebel.
I really have a long way to go with learning Photoshop, though. But I am determined, since it seems to be the standard. Is the tutorial good, or does anyone recommend a book or such to help learn the program?
Just got an Epson stylus Photo 825, only printed a few so far, but it seems to be a very good printer.
Practice, practice, practice...

I had the Sigma 28-200 as the first lens I had for the 10D. It was a surprisingly good lens! I traded up to the 28-300mm but the pics I took with the 28-200mm were better...

These lenses are not top of the line. They do leave a bit to be desired... but for a usefull general purpose lens they with a large focus range they do a damn fine job.

A btter bet would be the Canon 28-135mm IS but,.. if you really wnat the added length in your "everyday" lens and save some money at the same time you could do a lot worse than the Sigma 28-200mm.

The majority of the pics in this gallery were with that lens on my 10D

CyberDyneSystems,

Thanks for the photos. They look real good.

I've already ordered the Sigma 28-200mm lens and I'm hoping that it's what I want. It was definitely in my current price range. My other choice at the time was the Canon EF 28-200mm f3.5-5.6 USM lens but I went with the Sigma for now.

Next I need a good dedicated macro lens.

deezeljuice,

I recommend the PS tutorial highly to get the most out of the program.
