My question is this: I want to buy my wife a new camera for our anniversary in the spring, she shoots mostly weddings and sports portraits, and on occasion she will shoot some fast action youth sports, Do I wait for the new 1D or go ahead and spring for the 1DS? The way that I understand things (for what that is worth) is that the 1DS will still have a higher resolution. And that translates into a better picture. So even when the new 1D comes out it most likely will not have the resolution of the 1DS. What do you guys think?
Thanks amd Stay Safe,
Matt

Heck, I don't know if I can help out too much, but will you marry me instead? I can settle for the 1D, so you'll save _BIGTIME_ instead of buying your wife the 1Ds, heck the price-difference can even pay for a big phat diamond-ring for me :)
And just to mention it, I'm a man, hope that doesn't make me totally unattractive to you.. But I do got long hair. So, deal? :-P (and you'll get my 10D in return =))

If you can afford the 1Ds, I would say go for it by all means. It has become the digital standard. The full size sensor is a big bonus, since wide-angle lenses are more available. For weddings your wife may need wide to short telephoto, and it is much more readily available if you don't have to concern yourself with the 1.6 crop factor.

The answer is easy here. Since she's more into portraits the 1Ds is the obvious answer. It would also be able to handle some sports action shots, though obviously not as well as the 1D.
As for a 1D replacement, I envision an 8-9mp camera. It'll have to have a huge buffer as the weak link would be in writing those large files to the CF card.
It'll be interesting to see what Canon throws at us next to pry more $$$ out of our wallets. We are such junkies.

Ok, I'll try to be serious then.. My take is that if Canon realease a new 1D anytime soon, it won't match the 1Ds' resolution. But it will probably have faster focusing and other things that make it more suitable for sports-photography. But again, I'm just a newbie, and really don't know all the gory details to give a trustworthy advice. But although I lack some of the technical skills in photography, I do know one _very_ important (to most of us) thing about the 1D vs 1Ds, the price-difference =) I guess you've already checked that one out, right? If not, hope your wife will love her new 1D ;)
And by the way, the previous post was intended as a joke, and I'm not gay, and I don't actually believe I would marry someone just for a 1D.. Or would I? :-P

Hi, we have a 1D and a 10D (as weddings is the primary business). Go with 1Ds - Consider it this way... will you get more return $$$ on the wedding jobs? or the sports portraits... my bet is on the weddings... we shoot the sports just for fun, PR, advertising etc.. but our bread and butter is the weddings... good luck
