Just starting to play with B&W processing from RAW...

PLease comment on these photos... I quite like em

I like the first one... pretty cool. Add a dramatic sky... that would be cool... oh and cut the washed out background. That would be SWEET!

thanks for the crit...I initially wanted better exposure when framing the shot and knew things would be washed becasue of the sun...but I actually like the washed out look for the background becasue it enphasized the main object.

Don't know if this is a common practice or just narrowing DOF...but then would you still be able to capture am interesting sky?

I like them both. I might have framed the first one a little differently (I would cropped about an inch off of the left side). I also would have tinkered extensively with local tones, especially in the second one, where it seems to me that the beautiful light could have been nicely tuned up. But those are all very personal editing choices.

Imaging is subjective. If you like the washed out background keep as is. ;) I just have a thing for dramatic sky. LOL! I wanted to be a meteorologist when I was little.
