Im covering an event at the weekend (Northampton Balloon Festival) (have media pass), Northampton Bourough council are interested in the images, and have given me the possibility of extra work if they like my images, as they already like the images on my website.

There PR Manager has given me details of another assignment, and has asked for my day rate. What sort of figure should this be. I'm trying to establish myself as a freelance photographer, however although this would be a great opportunity I dont want to charge too little, nor too much that I lose the work.

The assignment involves photographing a building.

I would appreaciate it if any could suggest a starting figure, or roughly how much photographers charge for this type of work.

As I say if they like my work, there is the opportunity for many more commisions.

Thanks, look forward to your responses. I have to let them know tomorrow, so any help would be great.

I have found some guides here...

How accurate are these?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's reality.

Most PR jobs.... i.e. go shoot an event or location for an organisation pay £100 - £150.

This is far more than the local rags.

I would start by saying you have a fixed rate of £ 150 for the job to include travelling time, post processing etc. If you need to hire equipment this can be added.

As with everything, rates vary. On friday I'm chargeing £700... next Monday it's £120.

It all depends what "value-add" you can offer. If you have the only balloon mounted fish-eye camera... you own the market.....
