I have just brought a Speedlite 380ex, was wondering, I can get hold of some recheargable batteries (1800 rating) quite cheap, how many would I need for say....a night out of 300 flash shots?

a 380?
1800 is actually on the low end of rechageables these days. 2500 or more is available.
it all depends on how you use it. the higher the iso and wider the aperature, the less the flash has to work. I'd bring multiple sets of batteries, when they start to die, teh recycle time is awful and you may miss a shot

The bare minimum I would try to get by with is 2 sets of batteries, a 15 minute charger, and a power outlet nearby.
One set might last the whole 300 shots. Might not. ;)
