so with the 10-22.. many posted photos with distortion at wide open. any software that can fix that distortion without hurting the detail and sharpness? or will cropping it out be your best bet?

Someone had suggested after buying a wide angle lens to leave it on the camera for a couple of weeks and only use that lens. That way one would get used to using it

Ah good, some inspiration for me to take the 17-40 out this weekend. A good UW is one of the things I consider absolutely indispensable for my shooting.
BTW, 17mm on a 5D or full frame camera would be considered ultrawide. An EF-S 10-22 (which only fits on a crop camera, and an EF-S one at that) would be equivalent to 16mm in full frame. I owned both and I miss my 10-22.. *sniff*

You need a wide angle lens to capture the Concorde at the Dulles AP Air & Space Museum Annex.
I made this with my 10-22MM EF-S; 10MM, f/4, 1/60th, ISO 400.

I like the idea of the shot, but that might have the more serious distortion I have ever seen from a superwide. Too bad really. Great light and polarizer.

I love the 10-22 for static shots of bombers at airshows! You just have to pay attention to the alignment or it will look funny.

Dude, that's ultra wide, when on a 5D. The 10-22 has an FOV of 16mm on the 1.6 crop. You are 1mm off.

Here's a shot of the 16in. cannons of the USS Missouri. Taken in RAW format with my 1D/17-35 f/2.8L combo at 17mm. Mode=Av Priority, Av=f/11, Tv=1/100, ISO=200, no flash. I also used a circular polarizer. Photo has been processed thru DPP, Noise Ninja, and PS7.
