Help! What can I do to make this special?

I was thinking about using this in a competition if I could make it special. I've left it basically unedited in order to not lead in any particular direction. I was thinking about enlarging the moon, but past that I don't know. It needs to remain realistic for the competition. Its about to be dropped out of my consideration, but I thought I'd give it one last chance.

Do you have a top-three you've boiled it down to. It may just be me but this shot really doesn't do much for me.

Maybe try to crop off the sky all together and the bottom just leave the pattern in the sand intact...

or

Crop off the bottom and do a monochorme converstion?

I was thinking about taking out the dirt (topsoil) at the top, but leaving the sky and sand, thus making it look more Mars-ish and less earth-ish. I was also thinking some kind of gradient may help, but hadn't tried that. I don't think monochrome would help but maybe a duo/tritone with a lot of seperation.

I haven't saved any of my edits and I didn't want to lead anyone in any particular direction. I've thought some shots in the past weren't special before, but gave them a chance by posting on the web. The artistic directions I'd gotten made some shots amazing in the past.
