I just received my Vagabond 150 two days ago, and had it tested to ensure my Vagabond was working properly.

However when I tested it, I encountered problems during the test
shots. The recycle time was inconsistent and at times the unit does
not fire. It seemed that the Alienbee 1600 unit was not being charged
properly and consistently.

I isolated the problem by testing with my other Alienbees 1600 units
(220v) and the problem was the same. The recycle time was inconsistent
and at times the Vagabond seemed to be defective.

I did what was stated in the manual by charging to a full 12 hours
before initial use. When I tested it, at the 1/32 setting, it was
working properly for about 6 shots... after that, the unit did not
charged fully again. I had to turn it off then on again.

Then when you switch to a higher setting like 1/16, it would fire only
two flashes then it would stop again. When I switched off and on the battery, the alienbees flashes would work properly again for about 1-3 shots. At 1/2 or FULL power... the unit took forever to get ready.

My Alienbee units were converted to 220V, so I don't know if this a
factor on why my Alienbees and Vagabond Unit don't work properly.

The Vagabond was also grounded as instructed in the manual.

Please advise.

hmm...that's a tough one, I'd contact Alien Bees about this problem, since they are the ones that converted the flash units.

I would definately call AB, they have great customer service.

I have the Vagabond and when I have used it I have never had a problem that was not operator error.
