Here's the situation I'm in. My current host won't allow write permissions to the webroot, which is obviously something I need to have to run EE properly. I also don't want to go through the hassle of trying to get them to install Imagemagick, and I've got about 6 months before I can get out of my hosting agreement.
Trying to be a bit creative without wasting a lot of time, I've been trying to work out how to make the best of the situation.
Is there any way I can run EE in a sort of 'read-only" mode so that I don't need write permissions? What I was thinking is setting up a full EE install on my home computer, doing all the uploading / creation / etc there, and then mirroring it on my host. Would I be able to get away with just having the runtime pieces with no ftp, etc, on my host?
Any thoughts or anyone who has tried this?
