Hi,

I've just installed EE on my personal server so much of it was much easier than dealing with things via shell commands and ftp servers.

Everything went pretty well, but now I'm stuck. I can't seem to delete the photos that are in the D30 exhibit. I've repointed all of the URLs to point to my own site, so nothing shows up - which is good, but there are "X" markers for the 10 photos that were added to the "default" installation.

The "Show System" says to use the photo editor to delete the photos, but I have yet to figure out just how to do this. The photo editor will allow me to "CREATE/DELETE THIS EXHIBITION", but I've modified the #1 exhibition enough that I want to keep it as my working template, and just change the data as needed.

I was able to use the multi-editor to delete the unused data, and add my own data, but much if it cannot be deleted because of the 10 photos that are "stuck" in the exhibition.

...Copy/Delete photos also does not work. Show System indicates:

"Can not delete because it's the last occurrence of the photo in the database. Your options are: move it to a hidden gallery, or delete it from entire database (use the photo editor for that)."

I'd like to delete them from the database, but I'm afraid it must be all screwed up by now :-(

I'd really like to get this sorted out.

Also, I have no idea how to add photos to the system so that I can add them to an exhibition. Since all file access is local, it should be easy and fast, but I haven't found docs that explain how/where to put the original photos and what to do to cause the thumbnails and smaller sizes to be created.

FWIW, I've installed EE 1.22. Perhaps I should just abandon that and install 1.5 (lastest version)? If I do that, should I delete and re-create the MySQL database? I already have IMAGEMAGIK installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ed,
I started with 1.2, then upgraded to 1.3... finally gave up and started over with 1.5 beta4 plus the fixes, then the upgrade to 1.5 beta5 then to fix1 and fix2 before I tried to put pictures in.

EE1.5 beta5 fix2 makes it EASY to add pictures. It has an UPLOAD directory where you put the files and EE1.5 takes over from there and makes the sizes you have set-up with IMAGEMAGICK.

I highly recommend you starting fresh with EE1.5 if you don't have too much work involved.... although I just renamed my GALLERY to GALLERY13 and made a new GALLERY that I put EE1.5 in. Then set up the paths etc in EE1.5 and moved over the subdir's I already had the files in in EE1.3, then went into PHOTO BROWSER and made them visible in EE1.5. Saved me HOURS of work.

Give it a try Ed.

Ken,

Did you have to create a new MySql Database for version 1.5 or just use the same one that you were using with 1.3? Since I haven't really added any photos yet, I guess it won't be much additional work to just start over with 1.5 - though I'd rather not delete and re-create a DB if I don't have to.

I'm liking this idea, as I didn't even realize there was a beta 1.5 when I downloaded 1.22. If 1.5b5 is pretty stable, I'd just as soon go with that.

How does the UPLOAD directory work? Is there a script/page I can run if I just move the files over to that directory in order to get thumbs and such? It's pretty pointless for me to use ftp on my LAN, but if the system is set up to streamline work that way, it's not too big of a problem.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. Perhaps Pekka can comment on the best methods to set up the DB when you have the server on your LAN?

Just connect to LAN server's server (Apache) using web browser and use it as you would use EE in a normal www server.

You can move photos to gallery/UPLOAD folder with OS drag&drop through LAN. Then use EE to resize and relocate photos.

Thanks gang. Got the server running - now I just need to get the EXIF stuff working.

Glad you got it up and going Ed. It is a great program, once a person gets over the learning curve a little bit. EE1.5 is MUCH easier for me...hope it is for you too.

Enjoy!
