I got a chance to try out my 400 f/2.8 yesterday. Sweet! The course wasn't much to look at, it was advertised as a Scottish style links course. The 400 showed me it has some amazing potential, though. I took most of these shots with the 5D and 400 plus a 1.4x extender.

1. I took this shot of the clubhouse while waiting for the tournament to start. 5D with 70-200 f/2.8 IS at 100mm f/11.

3. I shot this one into the sun. The reduced size doesn't do it justice. I cropped it this way because of the many very fine blades of grass that form a semi-circle around his head.

Lovely shots. The DOF is spectacular (I particularly like #4 for the background blur). Nice composition of the clubhouse, too.

Thanks for all the comments. I like #4 best, too, the way the sharpness of the tall grass contrasts with the background.

I keep hearing that the lens doesn't make the photographer but I think this lens may be the exception to the rule.

#1 and 4 are excellent. I'm wanting to get out there and play now. :(
