I thought that some of you may be interested.

There is one 52mm expo/disc on ebay right now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2965566104&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1

it will fit perfectly G3 with 52mm lensmate adapter. I remember that some time ago it was recommended by somebody here in the discussion about 420ex. It's claimed to be very useful in setting the correct white balance. info on the expo/disc can be found here: http://www.expodisc.com/ .

That ebay auction has "buy now" option, so you can grab it for $12. The price of a new expo/disc is about $80.

I have no relation to the seller, I'm just passing the information. I would buy it myself, but, unfortunately, I've bought one (58mm) already a few days ago for $16.50 + $5.00 shipping (from the ebay too).

Well, looks like I just bought it. :) At that price, I figured why not?

Thanks for the heads up...

Geez, that was a helluva deal. I have one. Got it before the price increase. And yes it does work like a charm. I use mine on my 420ex. If using flash bounced off a ceiling then set to custom mode with disc on lense and set button and your ready. I use mine indoors or out. Its idiot proof and takes the guess work out of the white balance. Doesn't take but about 30 seconds to use. Wish I'd paid 12 bucks.

Yeah, I actually debated on getting one before the price increase also, but let the matter slip since I was happy w/ the G3's WB presets for the most part (and still am). But at just $12, there was no way I'd let it pass this time. :)

I hope you'll like it. You, probably, will receive it even before me. Mine is being shipped from Canada with some slow ground mail service, it can take up to 3 weeks. In any case, I'm sure it's a great deal.

I have white balance problems on flash shots. The walls in my apartment have yellow tint and it caused problems when I used 420EX in the bounce position. Expo/disc sounded like an ideal solution, but not for its full price $80. I was monitoring ebay for two month, there were no auctions for expo/disc's.

By the way, I really like your blackout shots. But, I guess, it means that you were stuck there too with all other people? Well, at least you did not miss the opportunity for taking great shots.

Thanks much for looking and the kind words.

It actually wasn't that bad -- seems that the photos (and maybe my comments at the gallery) made it seem worse than it was. It was a long walk over the bridge, but pleasant enough since I had my then-new G3 w/ me.

Actually, there were a couple of great shots I missed that I really wish I took after the moments passed. At the time, I still was not used to taking advantage of spontaneous photo opps on the "street". If it happened now, that would change although I'm still not very quick at it yet. :) Also, I wish I had the 420ex w/ me for fill flash w/ the sax player. Oh well...

BTW, you have some nice shots on your page too. I like many of the nature shots, particularly the ones w/ nice water reflections. And cute kids... :)

Again, thanks for the kind words. Hope the expo-disc works out for you too.

Regards,

Can someone post how you use the expo/disc with the G3? I've had mine for several months but have been getting inconsistent results. I've found that sometimes when using the reflective method shots come out a little too cool. While using the incident method sometimes comes out a little too warm.

I received my expodisc a couple of days ago, and I have to admit that I'm disappointed with the results. "Auto" white balance produces more accurate colors. With expodisc colors are too cold.

I wonder if I use it right. The instructions provided with expodisk are a little bit confusing especially, when shooting with flash. Can somebody give tips on how to set WB with expodisc and 420EX?

Can you tell me if a 49 mm disc will work with the G3
