Hi,
I am a pretty beginner portrait photographer. I have a Rebel with a 28-200 Tamron lens. I would like to buy a different lens but I am clueless as to which one to buy. I want a pretty decent one the sole purpose will be taking pictures of people. I would also like to know what are some basic accesories I need to buy for portrait photography? Flashes etc. If anyone could help it would be much apprectiated!

pretty basic price and basic candid pics could be easily shot with the nifty fifty :) (50 mm 1.8 prime) I like the 85 1.8 for portraits as well. In another forum you will probably gets tons of opinions and answers!
Welcome!

One of the best portrait lenses ever is the 50mm f/1.4. Amazingly crisp, great dof and bokeh

Take more pictures with your equipment and figure out at what focal lengths you like to take portraits at. Once you find that the lens is limiting you, upgrade to a lens that fits your need better. Otherwise you'll buy a lens that others recommend (with good or bad reasoning). If you like environmental portraits, a 16-35 maybe the best lens. If you like a tight headshot, then a 85mm prime maybe the best for you. The equipment you need to get depends on what type of working environment you are under. Only you can learn that with experience.
Having said all that, if you like portraits, a nice flash with a head that you can rotate to bounce is a nice idea. I think the Canon 430EX with a diffuser of your choice is a good starting point though.
