The Official POTN Football Fantasy League!

With 24 hours to go to the start of the new Premier League season the interest in the POTN FFL has grown to frenzy.


Fourteen teams stand at the starting line ready for one of the most arduous, challenging and frankly pointless races in the sporting world. Over the next nine months these teams will battle and fight for the right to be called the POTN FFL Manager of the Year. There will be highs and there will be lows, there will be tears and there will be tantrums, there will be new products launched by Canon that drop the price of a 30D by £200 and really get me in a bad mood.


So we turn to the challengers.


Bellamy’s Fight Club. Managed by dewmuw (Damian). An experienced FFL campaigner and runner up in the Beaver Homes League Championship of 1999 Damian brings guile, skill and a smidgen of cheating to the league. A Liverpool fan from the UK. Odds – 5/1


Col’s Clatterers. Managed by Col_M (Colin). A devoted lover of owls – all legal by the way and nothing dodgy, Colin is another Liverpool fan from the UK. As his team name suggests his team is likely to be the league’s bullyboys. Odds – 4/1


The McKing. Managed by sGu (S to his friends). Like his beloved Manchester United, ‘S’ hopes to be challenging for honours come the end of the season. Also like his beloved Manchester United he’ll be spending all his transfer budget on injury jinxed midfielders from Spurs. J Odd – 10/1


Highland Hackers. Managed by Trevor (Weemannie). Lives in Scotland and is an Arsenal fan too, so knows nothing about football! Will be challenging Colin for the title of bullyboys. Judging by the amount of time Trevor dedicates to POTN posting he will have little spare to managed the team and is an early season favourite for the sack and replacement by David ‘eh eh’ O’Leary. Odds – 2500/1


Nuneaton Rovers. Managed by neil_r (Neil) The dark horse and many informed peoples outside tip for title glory. Needs the win to add to his avatar when his Landscape and City Photographer of the year award expires. FFL Manager of The Season has a nice ring to it. Odd – 2/1


Scotties Hotspurs. Managed by Buggbairn (Scottie) The Martin Jol of the POTN FFL – reassuringly irritating. ;) Has already admitted to an early season drink problem and an over fondness to Stella (the drink I assume). Could be spending too much time in the wrong sort of club. Odds – 15/1


Randy Villa. Managed by danja (Dan). Obviously an experienced player. A man of few words ("done"). He’s either supremely confident or playing mind games with fellow managers, a la Jose. A Villa fan and member of the 1CT Group League – over loyalty to Villa players could cost him dear. Odds – 6/1


True Blues. Managed by Boutty (Johnny). The first international manager (Australia). You do know that they aren’t allowed to pick the ball up don’t you? Faces many late nights and early mornings keeping up to date with point scoring. Will lose interest in the league during the winter as England thrash Australia to win the Ashes (again). Odds 24,000/1


Beckton United. Managed by gmen (Gavin). Knows more about photographing football than anyone else in the league, but does he know his Darren Bent from his Marcus Bent? Already investing in a new lens for the end of season celebration party. Odds 6/2


Manchester. Managed by superdriver (David). An American in charge of Manchester, could such a thing ever happen? ;) A self confessed football novice (that’s why he’s a Man Utd fan!J ) David has already won the admiration of other managers for his "have a go" attitude. Will probably turn out to be blessed with natural talent for spotting a winner and will romp home with the title in December. Odds 2/1


Dynamo Corcaigh. Managed by alonos14 (Mark) Yet another Liverpool fan! Hailing from Cork, Ireland the home of Roy Keane, Mark is adding a bit of steel to the league. Please keep the expletives to yourself! J An experienced player involved in another league (McAfee – does that mean he’s going to keep popping up and annoying us while we’re working?) Odds 2/1


Bluewithredstripes. Managed by Ikinaa (Gerard). A Manchester United fan from Luxembourg (aren’t they all?) Gerard has a secret statistical analysis system that works well with the Bundesliga. Will it work for the Premier League – much like Owen Hargreaves – only time will tell. Odds – 7/1


Mike’s Magicians. Managed by Mike64 (err Mike!) A self-confessed tax dodger mike will not see out the full season, he’ll either be away in the Caymans or banged up in Pentonville. Don’t worry Mike we’ll send you a cake with a file in (a raw file J ). Another experienced player with a team in the Bath University league. Odds 10/1


Vio City. Managed by Viodea (Vio). A Manchester City fan for the US – surely a relative of Claudio Reyna? Like City, Vio’s team will probably spend more time hanging around mid table than threatening for the title. But who know – the inaugural POTN FFL may yet head to the US at the end of the season. Odds 8/1


There is still time to join the league – just follow the instructions in the previous post. The more the merrier.


I will endeavour to keep people up to date with scores at the beginning of every week and maybe we can get some banter going!!

I strive to create a friendly family type atmosphere at the club, if that means taking the players out to get bladdered at the weekend s then so be it
