With today's technology, is there an alternative to the Compact Flash card that would hold massive amounts of RAW shots. Something that connects directly to the camera (10D in my case) to allow one to take shots all day without worrying about a capacity problem. Then dump all to the computer.
Is there something out there like this?
Just curious.

I'm reminded of the Stray Cats song - "How Long Do You Wanna Live Anyway?" The answer at first is 'as long as possible'. The reality I think is that after a while, you'd most likely be sick of it all. So for card storage, same question: How much do you really want?
There certainly must be a point where each one says, "that's too much on one media". There are folks that refuse to risk all their images on a single 512mb or 1gb card. Others ran out to get all the 2 and 4gb cards. Not that either manner is right or wrong, I'm just thinking out loud. And I digress...
I would guess that one possible path technology will take us down is similar to what Brand "N" is trying to sell in it's new D2H with the optional wireless 802.11b transmitter. Of course, you'd have to be within range of a LAN to download your images to.
Just my two cents...

Ooo yeah. Now this would be something doable and not some firmware hack. Imagine shooting pictures and sending them directly to your laptop with no CF card in the camera. A wireless-connection from your camera directly to your computer.

Maybe in time! Would be great to be able to use one of the wireless-compactFlash cards and be able to transmit the photos directly to a nearby laptop or PC wouldn't it? I'm sure somebody has to be working out the details ...somewhere! LOL

It's very doable and makes perfect sense. A wireless, networked dSLR. Canon 3Ds. Fall 2004.

Jim (& all),
It is NOT a 3D.
Why should Canon dilute their product range? Could a 3 based DSLR compete with the 1v based range for build quality and features? Of course not.
Expect the Canon DSLR range to be: 300D, 10D, 1D (update 2004?), 1Ds.
But I will tell you this - I want the updated 1D - whatever they call it!
