Hi All
I currently have a 300D and have noticed that there are 350D available for sale in the "For Sale" Section.
As a total newbie that has not had the 300D for long would i notice much difference if i upgraded.
Or should i learn the ropes with what i have then progress when i am ready to as it where
Thanks
Andy

My advice would be to learn with what you have got and when you find that any piece of gear is holding you back then is the time to look at upgrades. The 300D is a fine camera, you may well find that some of your glass becomes the limiting factor in your set up long before the body does. Have fun! :)

I wouldn’t because the 350 is not that much better than the 300. I always like to skip a generation. Wait for the upgrade to the 350. It may be 10-12 MP+, have higher ISO capability and even better noise reduction.

I thought that might of been the case

You might be better off upgrading from the 300D to a nice gently used 20D. There are quite a few improvements to be found in a 20D than either the 300D or 350D. Most noticable would be the speed and accuracy of the auto focus, and less noise at higher ISO's.
After may years of using my 300D, I just upgraded to a 30D. A much better camera, but I'm keeping my 300D as a backup, because it's still a very good camera, and still takes very good pictures. I'm not a great photographer, but I do find that the 30D is helping improving the quality of the pictures I take.

Are you running into things the camera (as distinctfrom the lens(es)) won't let you do? if you are, then it's time to consider an advance. But that advance should be to whichever model offers the feature(s) you find lacking in the 300D. But if you haven't started running into 300D limits, wait a bit, shoot a lot, and you'll know when you need more. You may well find you want to get different lenses first.

Av not run into anything yet as av probably only shot about 100 photo's on it :P

Then keep shooting and work it to death!

first of all.. you mean 350d>300d (or 300d<350d)... 300d is never better than 350d...
i'm a firm believer of if "it ain't broken, don't fix it". since you have no problems with rebel, don't replace it. when you find a problem, fix that, if focus/higher iso is needed, 20d instead. if lower fstops needed, get new lenses. if none is needed, don't get anything.

Hehe, don't worry. That's what I thought of when you wrote it.
Anyway, I have the 300D. There are times I was thinking of selling it and picking up a 350D, but I've decided against it. It's too small!
However, the startup speed, buffer, and how fast it can write to card is pretty annoying with the 300D that's fixed in the 350D. Also, there's there "better" high ISO performance, which is nice.
There's also AI Servo but I don't know how much of an improvement that gives.
I'm saving up my pennies for a 30D, or maybe even a 5D. Till then, my 300D keeps me happy.

Well how i look at it for the time being is.
I am probably nowhere near using the capabilities of the 300D so upgrading would just make me further away from exceeding the capabilites of the camera.
If photography prooves to be something i have the "eye" for as you say i would save my pennies for a model up like the 30D. I dont know how to use the features on the 300D yet so i think i will be fine in the short term. hehe

i would consider moving to the 20D.

My opinion, like others, is to work with the 300D. It's a fine, capable camera. The 350D is a bit better in terms of features and such, but until you start finding yourself troubled with the limits of your present camera, it doesn't make sense to go for the newer model.
Put some time in with your 300D. When/if you're ready, you'll be certain that you want to move to something else.

I don't even see the point in going from the 300 to the 20 or 30 unless you really get serios and have some valid reasons to do so. Your skill will be a much greater factor than the camera as both are good enough if you have some talent. I have a 350 (xt) and I wont be upgrading until I get MUCH better, my camera breaks or there is a substantial increase in specifications. If there were an xti that was 16mp, 6400 iso, substantial noise reduction and a great in camera IS, I would upgrade in a minute.

I've just upgraded from 300D to 20D, and I've given my impressions in another thread ... basically, the most noticeable improvements are handling and speed, not IQ and resolution (for me, though ...)
Said this, I wouldn't never upgraded from 300D to 350D, because in this case there is only a little improvement in resolution and 350D is even worst than 300D in handling, because is too small !!!
Keep on using 300D, is a nice camera and I loved it for 2 years, and I still love it (as long as I keep it as backup camera ...)

Keep the 300D. It is a very capable camera. I would highly suggest a Magic Lantern guide. It helped me tremendously when I started out. I have taken some pretty amazing shots with my 300D. Also the 350D is a smaller body and if you have large hands like I do, it will be uncomfortable to hold IMO. I have had my 300D for 2-2.5 yrs / 7500 shutter actuations and have never regretted it. I just now upgraded to the 30D and it will take me 6 months to get used to all the features on this thing :) I'm joking but it is a world of difference.

price for the 350D is very good now. The 350D has alot more improvements over the 300d than say the 30d over the 20d! If you have the hacked firmware flashed into your 300D, it should be quite good too. Ultimately it's your call. Does your budget allow it? If so, why not a 1D MKII? That would be a noticeable jump. ;)
