With all the "show us your..." threads, I was wondering if there was a "Show us your time exposure" thread. I did a search and nothing immediate came up, so if anyone knows if there is one, can you provide a link? If not, I'd like to start one. I think a "show us your time exposure" thread would be VERY interesting. :)

J T, by time exposure do you mean time lapse photography?

No, time lapse and time exposure are two different things. Here is an example of time exposure:

A time lapse would be like a video compiled with pictures taken over a period of time at the same subject. Examples found here: http://www.haworth-village.org.uk/nature/time-lapse/thumbs.asp

Thanks J T, I use this technique sometimes (with polarizing filter and small apertures) to get very slow shutter speeds. The darkest filter I have besides that is the IR filter :D (No good here)

You may have seen this site on the subject:

Great stuff.

That's a good site with a lot of great examples. I was hoping to get a time exposure thread going in here, but it seems you're the only one interested.

Maybe it would get a better response in another forum, but this one seemed to be the most appropriate.

By the way, the photo above is of an Amtrak train and is a combination of two exposures, one to adjust for the post-sunset sky and the other for the train.

Send me a 77mm 5 stop ND filter and I'll start a thread on the subject ;)

Seriously this is a very interesting subject. (Not very exploilted from what I can see)

Cheers

Nah, just shoot at night and you're good with no filter at all. (I didn't use a filter on the photo above.)

I think its a good idea J T! What sort of duration are you thinking of? I quite often take 30 sec exposures and think I've got some a wee bit longer.

Hmmm...I guess what I had in mind is something along the lines of my photo above. Light streaks, mainly. Or just anything in general that shows a long motion blur...maybe 3-4 seconds or more of a subject. I know "time exposure" can cover a pretty broad range of styles and images, but I'd like to see more of the night time motion shots.

Another one as an example (not the best...this was early in my photographic-hobby days...well, just a few months ago. haha)

Maybe I should narrow the subject down a bit, like "show us your transportation time exposures"??

Thanks for the clarification J T. :D
They're 2 very good images BTW.

Thanks, Trevor. Now, do I create the thread in here or in the transportation forum? Hmmm....

JT Just been checking my inbound links and they are my timelapses on a site I run you linked to :) All done with Canon gear BTW :)

I think thread is better here, more choice. Did this while on holiday in France with a pocket torch in my hand and writing my name - exposure was 15secs

That's pretty cool, Biko. I wish we had the ability to edit thread titles, as I'd just make this thread THE thread to post in instead of starting a new one.
