I find myself needing this range. I think this would be the perfect walkaround lens. I've been looking into the 28-75 2.8 from Tamron, but I want wider. I need the long end too. am I asking too much??? Is this a reasonable thing to hope for in the future?? How often are new lenses introduced? I have no clue when to even to expect a new arrival from Canon, Sigma, or Tamron.

Sigma already makes a good 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 lens that sells for a reasonable $350. If you want constant aperture, then there's no such lens quite yet.

yea...I know there is nothin like it yet, but nothing like that is expected to come out either? Guess I will keep my dreams on the 28-75 2.8 untill then...

Your dreams will have to include a cheap price too! ;). Im thinking maybe $1,400 L, The 24-70mm f/2.8 would be discontinued. And hopefully IS will be put on it (in the $1400 price). It makes me wonder how many of their ideas come from here though. If they come here...LOWER YOUR prices!! lol. over and out....oh I meant on you L lenses to lower them prices. Oh and Make a 300mm f/ 2.0. for $3,000.....and make everythig else cheaper...by lake $6,000 :)

It will not be a walkaround lens for sure unless you hire some labour to carry the lens for you. Too heavy!!

I guess I have underestimated the difficulties in making a lens. As I just know what works and what doesn't I have no idea how much math, and precision is needed. Well I will probably end up with the Tammy (one day, the wife just hooked me up with a lens!)

I don't expect that you'll see a 17-75 lens with a constant f/2.8 aperture any time soon. You may see a 17-75 EF-S lens, but with a slower aperture like f/3.5-4.5. In full-frame, it isn't likely at any aperture as there are some serious design constraints that would make it difficult to have good image quality across the zoom range.

yea your right. I know a lot of people want the 18-200 or some crap like that, and I KNOW that's asking too much, but I figured 17-75 was reasonable but it's not. :( Well I'm thinking for my wishlist, get the Tammy 28-75 2.8 and get the efs 10-22 or maybe the sig 10-20...wishlist though...

Well I was looking for something a tad wider...I'm now thinking 24-105F4L...But these are all dreams for now. I will keep that 45-125 2.8L in mind though! Like that 2.8!
