I have currently returned from a wedding. The bride allowed me to use her wedding to practice photography. I want to return the favor by providing an amatuer wedding album package and need some help...
How should I present the photos?
SinceI didn't get a wedding present I wanted to put together a package for them.
Questions,
1. What type of photo album should I get? (i.e magnetic, sleve, paper)
2. Should I include 4x6s, 5x7s, 8x10s? If so in what combination and should they be mixed in the same album?
3. If I give them 8x10 should I frame them? Should they all be the same/similair frame?
4. I want to include black and white prints, should I include them mixed in with the color prints, on the same page or album?
5. Should I include white borders.
I should add that they had a professional photographer there and all of my prints will be of the wedding rehersal dinner and reception. The majority of the prints will be of their guests and the wedding party.
Any help would be great, a URL link will do.
Thanks!

This is just my silly opinion, but here it is. Since there was a pro that did the wedding, you can probably just make an album of 4X6's or possibly 5X7's. Don't use one of those little 4-1/2 by 6-1/2 sized booklets, but get a full notebook-sized album. Get a nice one with sleeves. Mix the B&W prints in with the color ones. I'd prefer no borders myself.
If there is one exceptional picture, you may want to go with an 8X10 and frame it for them. Use a frame that matches other picture frames that they may have, but don't go overboard. Frames can be expensive if you want to spend a lot. Using a larger frame and matting is nice.
Oh, and don't include any seriously embarassing reception prints. I don't know what kind of reception they had, but I've seen some "interesting" displays at receptions that were best forgotten by all.
BTW, I'm an amateur so I'm just passing on what I would do. YMMV and all that! Have fun.

I shoot weddings professionally and offer a variety of albums with the packages.
My suggestions would be:
1. A clear viewing album is OK. If you want to go a step
up get a vinyl dry mount album and mount the prints
2 to a page using double sided tape.
2. Get the prints developed as 5" x 7"
3. I wouldn't bother with 8" x 10" until after they view
the 5" x 7"
4. You can mix and match b&w and colour as you
please
5. White borders are fine but the final image is
of course smaller
The expense of the above should be sufficient for their wedding present.

The last time that I shot a wedding as an amateur, I was using a Canon film camera. So, I shot four rolls of Portra 400 print film, then that came back from the lab as contact prints. I picked out a half dozen of those that I liked, had some 5x7 prints made from those, and then presented the whole kit (negatives, contact prints, and 5x7 prints) to the happy couple (who were friends) as my wedding present to them.
Hmmm, this must have been back during the Eisenhower Administration.
It's a lot different now with digital.

Pick out the ones that have no technical problems like being out of focus or have horrible expressions and get proof prints made. You can give the bride all of these and in any size that you like and put it into a nice wedding proof album. I sort of like a white border and she probably will too.
In my experience brides will like shots that I don't particularly care for. This isn't right or wrong it just IS. So that's the reason that I suggest you edit for only for technical reasons (you DO NOT want to have to explain what "too soft" means"); or things like "eyes closed". Let her pick out the shots she likes. Then you put all the edited files on a CD and give it to them.

How should I present the photos?
Since I didn't get a wedding present I wanted to put together a package for them.
I did this a year ago last Sept with my 10S. I left when the wedding was over got the film developed and then went to the reception. Picked a pretty young friend of the bride to go back to my hotel room where we picked the best shots and put them in an album. Went back to the reception and hour later and gave them my wedding present. They were very happy and couldn't believe that they had a wedding album to show at the reception.
Questions,
1. What type of photo album should I get? (i.e magnetic, sleve, paper)
I always prefered a good sleeve album.
2. Should I include 4x6s, 5x7s, 8x10s? If so in what combination and should they be mixed in the same album?
Go with 4x6 and if they want an larger shots you can always do that later.
3. If I give them 8x10 should I frame them? Should they all be the same/similair frame?
Picking out a frame for someone is like picking out a lamp for their living room. Just give them the print and let them frame it the way they want. If you want the frame to be a part of the gift, give them a gift certificate to a store which sells good frames.
4. I want to include black and white prints, should I include them mixed in with the color prints, on the same page or album?
Just a personal opinion here but, I would start with B/W and end the album with color.
5. Should I include white borders.
I wouldn't, again just a personal preference.
I should add that they had a professional photographer there and all of my prints will be of the wedding rehersal dinner and reception. The majority of the prints will be of their guests and the wedding party.
I am sure they will still appreciate the pictures.
