So these aren't w/ my SLR...they were w/ a P&S Canon A70, I think last Nov. when I still still living in Idaho (It's my father's 300gal saltwater tank) and I was just learning to mess with some of the features on it but I still like these (just wished I had my SLR back then)

And of course...my favorite (it's kinda grainy...but it's IMPOSSIBLE to catch good shots of clownfish in their homes)

Not bad for a start, it takes a lot of practice to get down salt water picture taking. We use a tripod and a clicker that my husband made for the camera. i think the lense he uses for now is a 28-300 ( i can be wrong though) he really wants a macro lense though.

it was definite a "start" for me ;) I had never tried to take any photos like that before or fiddle w/ settings. What sort of setup do you have running? I'd love to see pics of yours.

One thing that makes it easier regarding the behavior of the subjects is to turn off the return pump or any water circulating pump (powerhead/skimmer etc). This make corals and such easier to photograph and usually causes the fish to come out more to check out whats going on.

I'll have to dig up some of my photo's, i'm still practicing at it my husband is really good at it. we just have a 45 reef right now, going to hopefully do a 210 reef with a bar like table around it so you can sit there drink and watch the fish. My husband loves DIY projects.

But keep practicing (sp) at it and you'll be good in no time.

That'd be awsome as a tank! And DIY is the way to go. All my tanks have some DIY project or another on it. I have a 45gal seahorse tank at the moment in our dining room area (I finally got around to setting it BACK up since I had to tear it down on the move to CO). I have a harder time doing DIY now because we live in an apt...but I just moved up here from Idaho and I lived close to my parents up there, so I had access to my father's workshop anytime I wanted (and him...he's handy to have around for DIY *laughs*). But since my SO got stationed at Ft. Carson it's harder to do some of the stuff I was doing without certain equiptment. My next purchase (after a 125gal tank) is going to be a diamond drill bit so I can drill my own tanks like I'd been doing. Unfortunately they're just not cheap.

Anyhow, look forward to getting those pics of your reeftank.

oooh! That goniopora is very pretty. Is that the most you ever see it's polyps extended? Goni's can extend much further
