I have read many of the links from this excellent forum re colour management and they are often very good.
However, I wonder if I could test, yet again, the patience of the experts here to be a little more specific.
I have an EOS 300D, Photoshop 7.01 and an Epson 890 printer.
I also have (I have no idea how) ICC profiles for the EOS 300D and the printer.
Now then, how would you setup your colour management for best results with that combination?

This was covered to death about three weeks ago. If you search "color management", you will find what you need to know about monitor profiling, choosing the correct input/output settings in Photoshop, Printer profiles, and Printer driver settings.
Not trying to be rude. Just tired of retyping. Here are some links:

If you have any questions after you've read the threads, feel free to email me or post a more specific question. I'll be happy to help. About a month ago I was as confused as you are.

Thought the question was fairly specific Scott but I do take your point.
I'll just keep on reading ....

There are many parts to your question, each involving an answer on its own:
1. How to calibrate your monitor.
2. How to set up Photoshop Print Preview.
3. How to set up your printer driver.
4. How to profile your printer/paper/ink combination or obtain ICC profiles for them.
Those questions are answered in detail in the above links.

Yes,
Quite a bit of that already covered, and the steep learning curve continues - the mass of information available tends to confuse a little at times. However, I have learnt so much from this forum that I suppose one tends to become a wee bit lazy ..... and assume answers to questions that are not really specific enough.
Trembling, I am going to ask, does Epson do ICC profiles for the 890? I have not been able to find any yet.
But, as I said, point taken

The Epson 2200 has them located on the Installation disk in the folder labeled PIM. Check the documentation for your printer and the Disk. Check to see if you have a folder on the 890 install disk called PIM. If you do, look in there for the ICC profiles. If not, check with Epson Support. If you find them, copy them to the folder on your computer that has all the ICC profiles as discussed in one of the links above.

Great stuff,
Finally located 890 profiles on the Epson web site.
Gosh, the plot is really thickening now. How the @$#~ am I going to find the time to work??
Thanks again Scott. (BTW, I had looked for profiles on CD but no luck).

Thoroughly recommend the following for newbie attempts at colour management with an Epson printer:
http://www.photoexpert.co.uk/UK/EXPERTISE/how_to_icc_page1.htm
which is the Epson Photo+Expert page as a simple step by step set up for Photoshop and Epson printer.
First results are very encouraging

Sorry to drift off topic slightly, but does anyone know if the Canon i9100 comes with ICC files for various canon paper? If not, can they be found online? Or would one have to create their own via ProfilerPLUS or some such program?
Thanks,
Brett W.
