Like the first one Neil especially the little fern in the FG.
Blown whites, are you exposing for the highlights ?, I find that I'm usually 1-2 stops under (from average exposure) when shooting running water shots.
The 5D's files are big enough to be able to pull back detail in the shadows without causing excessive noise.

Here's an example of an original file, exposed for whites, and after pulling back midtones/shadow detail in PS.

Thanks Les. No is the answer, I was underexposing around 2/3 of a stop but still blowing the whites (picture 2, bottom right cascade there is a small blob of blown white, unretreavable) mainly as with the 350D retrieving underexposed areas caused alot of noise, specially shodows. I would then darken the highlights rather than pull out the shadows.
I guess I now have to relearn more than expected but have noticed the distinct lack of noise with this camera. (glad I didn't buy the camera before Norway, the sun would have blown alot of my waterfalls).
Thanks Les :)

Lovely images Neil!
Especially the top one.
I usually find the foilage gets oversaturated on these kind of shots.
I usually pull them back by adding a hue/saturation adjustment layer and insted of adjusting 'Master', I select 'Yellows' from the drop down menu and pull them back so they look more natural.

One of the reasons I am trying to get used to the workflow in Lightroom is that you can change the Hues of individual colours, so add a bit of cyan to the greens, red to the yellows etc....very flexible. BUT it is far too easy to oversaturate any given colour and falsify the image. But in the rain and using a CPL I didn't need much saturation at all, I may even have overused the CPL.

I'm a big fan of Lightroom too (not particularly the beta) but the final product should be superb.
I know of the controls in Lightroom you mention and they are very flexible.

Neil _ looks like your having fun with the new additions. They both look nice but I see what you mean on the "still blowing the whites" although its not bad at all. You did better than me on a lot my attempts most recently.
Nice shots still and I like the first too. I'll be looking for more of your work.

The lower waterfall of Posforth Gill, Valley of Desolation! It is a beautiful place to go and very photogenic. Twenty years ago you wouldn't see another soul there, but like most places it is becoming ever more popular. You have done the place proud, great images! God bless fluffy water!

Try it in the rain, very few people willing to fight through 6ft ferns & get soaking wet in the process when they can see the fall from above. I spent a couple of hours there, mainly waiting for the rain to stop between shots....very peaceful! :) I will go out in bad weather more often!

Pardon my ignorance but are you refering to the "blown whites" in the moving water?

Yes, at the bottom right.

Yes, at the bottom right.
I guess that sort of blow out doesnt bother me as much. Not in small amounts anyway.
