Don't fall off your motorbike while riding in Tasmania and you are stuck in a ditch at dusk!

Or this might happen!

fascinating shots of the Tasmanian devils.
Good clear shots and showing the mood they can get into. They eat like the Parana fish but on land.

Thanks for the comments.
The growl that emanates from them is spine tingling.
They demolished that wallaby carcass in a few minutes.
Scary to watch but they are cute animals when they keep their mouths closed.
Interesting that they are marsupials and the females have pouches like kangaroos.

They do actually when they run off with the food.
It becomes a flurry of fur and feet and that's all you can see
Here are 2 examples of a feeding frenzy.
(Sorry about the quality of the last one but they were literally shaking their heads at a very fast pace and it was taken at ISO 3200)

Tassie Devils are one of the only animals on the planet to eat 'everything' when they sit down to feast. Flesh, organs, fur and bones. Yes you heard me, they eat the bones! So you can imagine one latching onto one of your fingers.

We have some just down the road from us and I've often been known to joke to hubby about not upsetting me too much ;) ROFL

Crocodiles?
Yep, but croc's virtually swallow their food where as Tassie Devils chew the bones. Even the 'Big Cats' don't do that.

LOL! That gave me a laugh!
These are terrific shots! I didn't realize that they were just running around loose. For some reason I thought they were endangered and the only place you had a chance to see them was in a zoo. I certainly wouldn't want to run into one on a dark night!

If those specimens were running loose when I shot those they would have eaten the camera then me!
Those shots were taken at a wildlife sanctuary in Tasmania.
Low fencing and glass walls on one side.
The buggers do run loose in the wilds of Tasmania but are becoming endangered due to a cancer that can be spread between them that affects their mouths.
Only known transmissable cancer.

Nope
I was on a sojourn down Tasmania.
There is the Tasmanian Devil Park near Port Arthur.
Tassie devils everywhere but out of our way thankfully.
Expensive admission price unfortunately.

Lived in Tassie for 3 years and did a heap of trekking. The sound of these guys scavenging around your tent after dark can scare the willies out of ya!Unless you know what they are!The are quite harmless and yes they do spin around and around when courting or fighting or if they are cornered. The world's largest remaining carnivorous marsupial.Hope the epidemic sweeping the wild populations is just a natural occurence. There was one recorded in the early 1900's.As carrion feeders they a at risk from infection and danger due to the abundance of road kill in Tasmania.I hope these guys are around for many years to come.In the wild they are awesome.Hate to be anthropomorphic but they do have distinct personalities.Dyed in the wool Devil lover.Carna Sainters!
