can anyone out there tell me how to adjust the colour output of my canon 965i phpto printer to more closely approximate my monitor. At present the output seems to have a reddish cast ant to be too dark. I've tried changing the settings in the Main tab of Properties in the printer driver but this makes no difference. Sadly the canon support site has repeatedly failed to answer my e-mails

If you want the colours on the printer to match the colours on your screen closely, you'll have to learn about colour management.

First of all your monitor needs to be calibrated and profiled, so that it accurately displays the colours as they should be. You can do this with software tools such as Adobe Gamma (which comes with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements), but it's better to do it with a device such as a ColorVision Spyder.

After you've done that you must get an ICC profile for your printer, ink and paper combination. The ICC profile is a file that describes how the printer renders colour, so that the computer knows how it has to tell the printer how to print the colours of your photos correctly. To print your photos, you must use software that supports colour management, and you select the printer ICC profile in the application when you print.
